The goal of this program is to field test the novel technology of engineered water (modifying ionic composition and/or adding surfactants or nanoparticles) injection to improve oil recovery from the carbonate matrix in fractured reservoirs. The specific objectives are (i) to identify a modified brine composition to enhance imbibition into the rock matrix of Goldsmith-Landreth San Andres Unit (GLSAU) in West Texas; (ii) to field test the novel EOR processes, (iii) to evaluate the field test and (iv) to develop criteria to apply these chemical processes economically in carbonate reservoirs.
