Baker Hughes Chief Scientist Joins UT CSEE and PGE Faculty

Dr. Silviu Livescu, who was most recently chief scientist of the pressure pumping product line at Baker Hughes, joined the Center for Subsurface Energy and the Environment  and the Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering faculty this fall as associate professor. Livescu brings to CSEE and PGE expertise in research and development, innovation, commercialization, and intellectual property in the petroleum industry. He has more than 30 US patents granted and pending, and has published more than 60 papers and articles.

Ravikumar brings to CSEE / UT PGE a multidisciplinary approach to solving one of science and society’s most pressing questions — how global economies can usher in sustainable energy development in the face of climate change.

Angela Scheer joins CSEE as Administrative Manager

Angela comes to CSEE from the Ferguson lab in the Cockrell School of Engineering where she was a Senior Administrative Associate. Prior to that she worked as a Grants and Contracts Specialist and an Administrative Associate in the Office of Sponsored Projects.

Masa Prodanovic, Associate Professor, has been named an International SPE Distinguished Member

Established in 1983, the Distinguished Member award recognizes SPE members who achieve distinction deemed worthy of special recognition. This award acknowledges members who have attained eminence in the petroleum industry or the academic community, or who have made significant contributions to SPE

Michael Pyrcz, Associate Professor, has won the SPE Gulf Coast NA Regional Data Science and Engineering Analytics Award

The SPE Data Science and Engineering Analytics Award recognizes outstanding achievements in or contributions to the advancement of data science and engineering analytics in the industry. This award was formerly known as the Management and Information Award.

Masa Prodanovic, Associate Professor, has won the EAGE Alfred Wegener Award

The Alfred Wegener Award is presented to a member of EAGE who has made an outstanding contribution over a period of time to the scientific and technical advancement of one or more of the disciplines in our Association, particularly petroleum geoscience and engineering

CARBON UT, a new Industrial Affiliate Program (IAP), has been approved in CSEE

The IAP will be led by Dr. Nicolas Espinoza and Dr. Ryosuke Okuno and will focus on Utilization, Transportation, and Storage of CO2 for maintaining the carbon cycle.


Traci Laird, Executive Assistant, CSEE, is receiving a Cockrell School of Engineering Staff Excellence Award for 2020-2021

As Executive Assistant of the Center for Subsurface Energy and the Environment (CSEE) since January 2020, Traci has taken the lead to rebrand the Center, implement our vision, build a culture of collaboration and inclusiveness, help develop a new website, establish our monthly webinar series, strengthen the relationship with PGE, and so much more. Last March she was a leader in anticipitating and implementing our work transition plan for COVID.
