Pyrcz Earns Promotion, Named IAMG Distinguished Lecturer
CSEE Assistant Director and Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering (UT PGE) Associate Professor Michael Pyrcz — who has been promoted to full professor effective September 2023 — will be the 2024 International Association for Mathematical Geosciences (IAMG) Distinguished Lecturer.
Balhoff Named Next UT PGE Chair
Professor Matthew Balhoff has been selected as the new chair of the Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering. He will begin his four-year term in July.

Michelle joins CSEE from the Computer Science Department at Texas State University where she was an Academic Budget Specialist. She received her BS in Communications at Brigham Young University – Idaho.
Associate Professor Ryosuke Okuno to lead Energi Simulation Industrial Affiliate Program on Carbon Utilization and Storage at UT Austin
Energi Simulation, a Calgary-based not-for-profit organization, has committed an investment of $540,000 Canadian dollars over the next three years to support research on “Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS)” at The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin). This program will serve as a vehicle for interdisciplinary collaboration among UT Austin faculty that enables them to address strategic areas of CCUS research.
Associate Professor David DiCarlo and Assistant Professor Yingda Lu have each received research funding through the new Energize Program, a collaboration between The University of Texas at Austin and the Southwest Research Institute
The program is a new opportunity for enhanced scientific collaboration between the two institutions focused on energy research.
